According to an article by John Foreman in the Millbrook Independent, dated 1/20/2010, there has been a farmhouse on the property since the days of the Creed Indians (this seems evident by the early wide-board pine floors in a small portion of the house) and the Federal main house was added in the mid-1800’s. Mr. Foreman then goes on to say that when Harris Smith (of the Smith Brothers of cough drop fame), owned it, he remodeled the home in Victorian taste, adding deep porches around the house, extra bays, towering chimneys, and a gable-end box over the front door. These additions were later removed by the next owners and it was then returned to its “elegant Federal simplicity”.
