The New England Girl

Nicole Goncalves is The New England Girl. A Designer, Lifestyle Guru and Artist– Goncalves specializes in wide variety of creative services focusing on furniture refinishing and painting but is also known for her wood working and creating eclectic, up-cycled interiors.

Goncalves was born and raised here in New England and enjoys traveling as much as she does being a home-body. She and her husband currently reside in Salisbury Connecticut but travel often to see family in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
“We enjoy spending our time traveling, we have been lucky to have family all over the world but especially enjoy our travels right here in New England.”
The creative duo often spend their weekends at some of their favorite places around New England, including their Vermont House, a small cabin Nicole’s grandparents built out of 100% reclaimed materials, their family’s boat in Watch Hill, Rhode Island and traveling to Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

Goncalves is a graduate of Canton High School in Canton, CT. She attended Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA for a Bachelors in Interior Design. Despite her education, Goncalves says that the most important things she learned in life came long before school, and credits her savvy eye to generations far back.
“As a child, I was taught how to grow a garden, can & bake from scratch. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents, who taught me a lot about keeping a household, being creative and incredibly thrifty.”
Goncalves credit’s her thrifty-ness and keen eye to her grandmother Marie. As for the re-purposing & wood working both her father & grandfather John enjoyed building things from scratch.

“As a child, I recall my grandfather building my cousin and I all types of wooden toys, some as elaborate as rocking horses.”

One thing Goncalves said she can’t live with out is Saturday Morning Bluegrass on 91.3 WWUH Listener Supported Radio broadcasted from The University of Hartford. “It’s just the little things in life that should make you truly happy.”

Goncalves began working with furniture after college. One piece led to another and in 2011 she decided to take a leap of faith and made the decision to go into the business full time. Goncalves has completed over five hundred furniture projects, designed multiple eclectic one-of-a kind spaces and has most recently been casted for HGTV’s hit reality show Flea Market Flip. { Airing April 2014.
