Elyse’s Country Journal – July 18, 2013 – HarneyRE – Salisbury, CT

Salisbury and the surrounding communities of northwestern Connecticut offer a wide range of unparalleled opportunities. Please enjoy Elyse’s Country Journal, published weekly on Wednesday. Elyse’s hope is that it will help open up a new perspective of our area.

  • You are cordially invited to an Opening Artists’ Reception for the “Eye of the Beholder” exhibit on Saturday, July 20, 4-7 pm, in conjunction with Lakeville Gallery Night! Featuring an array of talented artists from the Berkshire, Litchfield and Catskill regions! Amongst them: Vivian Altman, Liz Mullins, Collin Culbreth. There will always be Fine Art, Fine Food & Music! Gallery Arts Guild is located at 342 Main Street in Lakeville. For more information, go to www.galleryartsguild.com
  • The White Gallery at 344 Main Street in Lakeville is also having an Opening Reception on July 20 from 4 to 7 PM. The very exciting exhibit is named “Ethiopia + Iceland”. The Gallery Night (walking distance between galleries) also includes Argazzi Art at 22 Millerton Road in Lakeville, featuring “Summer Selections”, works by Agazzi artists.
  • The Northwest Music Association’s popular, free, Wednesday afternoon Baroque concerts held at Salisbury’s St. John’s Church, begin July 24 at 5 PM, continuing on July 31, August 7 and 14. The New England Baroque Soloists are all professional musicians with ties to well-regarded orchestras and ensembles throughout the Northeast. Typically, each concert lasts about one hour, after which the audience is invited to join the musicians for light refreshments in the lower parish hall of the church.
  • The annual Jane Lloyd Fund Clambake returns to the Salisbury Winter Sports Association Satre Hill on Saturday, July 27, from 2 to 8PM. The clambake dinner begins at 5 PM and will feature lobster, steamers, raw bar, clam chowder, potato, corn on the cob, dessert and one beverage. Clambake dinner tickets, priced at $50, sell out every year and must be purchased in advance from Tanya Tedder at 860-435-9661 or Donna Lloyd Stoetzner at 860-824-5493. The event will feature live music, and grilled hamburgers and hot dogs will be sold. Admission is free, although donations to the Jane Lloyd Fund are appreciated.
  • All proceeds from the clambake are used to advance the mission of the Jane Lloyd Fund which helps cancer patients meet their day-to-day financial obligations while undergoing cancer treatments. When local Salisbury resident, 38-year old Jane Lloyd was diagnosed with cancer, she was unable to work full time, and the stress of meeting her financial obligations weighed heavily upon her. A large group of friends and community members assumed Lloyd’s day-to-day expenses, enabling her to live her final days at home. After her death, the Jane Lloyd Fund was established to provide financial support for families facing a cancer diagnosis in the Region One area.
