“If you can’t find something to please your palate on Woodland’s three-page menu, you must not be trying.”
-Christopher Brooks, New York Times
Anyone who knows anything about the restaurant business will tell you how incredibly hard it is to succeed. According to popular studies, 60% of new restaurants fail within the first year, and 80% fail within their first five years. Given these statistics, one can only conclude that The Woodland Restaurant, quietly situated at 192 Sharon Road, between The Hotchkiss School and downtown Lakeville, CT, is an anomaly.
Formally a diner owned by noted Real Estate Developer Anthony Peters of Cushman & Wakefield, who also owned the Interlaken Inn, and developed Interlaken Estates and Lion’s Head Condominiums, The Woodland Restaurant was born in 1983, by Anthony’s daughter, Carol Peters.
By 2003, when current Chef/Owner Robert Peters, Carol’s younger brother, took over the restaurant, it had long been established as “THE PLACE” to be by locals, weekenders and visitors to the area. Robert’s transformation of the space, most dramatic in the bar area, brought a new level of sophistication to the restaurant’s rustic charm. The Woodland’s atmosphere, from the art to the lighting to the perfectly positioned plants, is carefully crafted to create a sense of relaxed comfortability, and succeeds on every front.
Food, of course, is the ultimate key to The Woodland’s success. From Award –Winning Sushi to classics like Spaghetti and Meatballs, The Woodland does it all, and does it exceedingly well. Using high-quality, fresh and often local ingredients, Chef Robert and his team put out consistently delicious food that keeps everyone coming back for more. Now in its 35th year, The Woodland remains “THE PLACE” to be. If you haven’t already, definitely make a date to visit The Woodland, but call first because you’re going to need a reservation![/vc_column_text][vc_message icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-user-circle-o”]The Woodland serves Lunch Tues-Sat from 11:30-2:30.
