Robert ‘Bullet’ Sherwood (1946-2019)

For many of us, we grow into our names.  A selective few, however, are born with an identity so strong that they define themselves. Robert ‘Bullet’ Sherwood was one of those people.

Although Bullet’s nickname has an ambiguous origin, likely related to his speed and baseball, it was his larger-than-life personality that earned him this single-name status.  He was a local legend in Salisbury – even if you didn’t know Bullet, you knew Bullet.

Be it the jubilant greeting of a stranger or pausing to laugh with a good friend – Bullet had a way of making everyone feel as if each interaction was the most important moment and that he had all the time in the world to enjoy it. He wore more hats than one could ever count, but Bullet instinctively knew how to ‘stop and smell the roses’. He impacted our entire community, leading by example to remind us that it’s the little things that we will one day look back upon to realize were the big things.

“It’s not what you take when you leave this world behind you. It’s what you leave behind you when you go.”
(R. Travis)

Thank you, Bullet, the spirited kindness and selflessness that you have given us,
will forever warm our hearts and permeate the entire community.
