Dennis Hill

Sprawling views and unsurpassed stone architecture, Dennis Hill in Norfolk, CT, offers a spectacular open-aired setting from the Pavillion at its summit. Surrounded by 240-acres of forest woven with hiking trails throughout, this state forest culminates at its peak with distant views and a great picnic pavilion with a substantial wood-burning fireplace inside.

NYC doctor, Frederick S. Dennis, engaged architect Alfredo Taylor to design and build the stone structure that is prominently sited at the crest of the hill where he could enjoy the surrounding hillsides in all directions at his summer retreat. Dennis created a gathering place, where visitors, including steel magnate Andrew Carnegie and President William Howard Taft, would spend time enjoying the village of Norfolk. Dennis wanted to continue sharing this special place with others after his passing, so he gifted the estate to the State of Connecticut in 1935, who honored his generosity with its name, Dennis Hill State Park.

Today you can enjoy miles of trails, letterboxing, and this beautiful pavillion that is now fully available for public use.
