Carl Bozenski’s Christmas Village

“Maybe Christmas,” the Grinch thought “doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”
-Dr. Seuss

How the Grinch Stole Christmas” had not yet been published in 1947, when then Parks and Recreation Supervisor Carl Bozenski invited Santa, his elves, reindeer, and of course Mrs. Claus to Alvord Park in Torrington, CT. Mr. Bozenski’s goal was to create a world of Christmas for all to enjoy, and he encouraged those around him to assist in this effort. For all that he did, the Christmas Village was named in his honor, following his passing in 1986.  Now in its 70th year, Carl Bozinski’s Christmas Village draws thousands of visitors annually.

Open daily from early December through Christmas Eve, the Village offers children the opportunity to meet Mrs. Claus, watch elves making toys, see Santa’s reindeer, and sit with Santa, who hands outs toys. All of this takes place in an elaborate and beautifully crafted re-creation of a North Pole Workshop. Because Santa takes his time with each of the children he meets, families should be prepared to wait in line, but can enjoy Christmas music and hot cocoa during the wait.

For anyone who loves the spirit of the Christmas Season, a visit to Carl Bozinski’s Christmas Village is a must! Hours are 1:00-8:30pm daily, and from 9:00am-12:00pm on Christmas Eve. For more information please contact the Torrington Parks and Recreation Department at 860-489-2274.
